This informative work was available from the early days of the war. It is advertised as " Fully illustrated with Charts, Photographs and Plans ". The book covers classes of ships from the British and the German navies in some detail and there are tables covering most of the individual ships in the Royal, German, French, Russian, Austro-Hungarian and Japanese navies. By placing the cursor over the image of the front board and book's spine , below, the dust wrapper can be seen and on the front part is the table of contents showing the subjects covered in the nine chapters. There is a comprehensive index.

The image to the left shows the book open at pages 64 and 65. There is an immaculate fold-out chart of the North Sea showing all the larger ports. It is three pages wide and two pages deep.

A view of " The Fleets at War " opened at pages 64 and 65 showing a photograph of H.M.S. Dreadnought, plans and details on the left hand page while the right descibes the weapons of the ' Lion ' and the ' Indefatable ' classes.
