Letters from
LORD NELSON It consists of a large number of letters written by Admiral Lord Nelson, covering the whole of his life, from his first command to his last, from youth to death. The letters given here total more than five hundred. They have been arranged in chronological order, thus giving a complete and accurate survey of Nelson's life and activities as he saw and described them in his own words. The letters cover every aspect of his life whether domestic, professional, political or strategic, and include many of his official despatches. They are addressed to hundreds of people, ranging from monarchs and princes to his wife, his relatives, his friends, his brother officers, etc. The letters have been selected from those first printed by Sir Harris Nicolas more than a century ago, and from the Morrison collection of correspondence between Nelson and Lady Hamilton, which was privately printed more than half a century ago. They have been selected, edited and arranged by Commander Geoffrey Rawson, who has added a minimum of explanatory notes. These Letters from Lord Nelson, now published in a single volume, give a unique and comprehensive survey of the Admiral's life as viewed and written by Nelson himself. |
