By
E. KEBLE CHATTERTON
Author of " THE BIG BLOCKADE," " THE KÖNIGSBERG ADVENTURE,"" GALLANT GENTLEMEN," etc.
REVISED AND ENLARGED EDITION
The aim of this book, which is based on 40 years' experience in Home and Continental waters, is to give the Yachtsman those essential facts he needs when entering a strange port. It is here put forward in the hope that it may be of real practical service.
For example, exact information is given just where to anchor, what are the traps for the unwary, where stores can be obtained, repairs, the time of high water based on Dover, and so forth.
This volume is indeed the yachtsman's " vade mecum."
With 42 large scale Plans and directions are given for nearly 800 Harbours and Anchorages.

Author's
"PREFACE TO THE SECOND EDITION

A NEW edition of The Yachtman's Pilot having been called for, I have used the opportunity to make revisions in the text where necessary ; to re-write a number of pages altogether ; to add new matter as requisite ; to make several corrections in response to those correspondents who have been kind enough to draw my attention. And, finally I have added, besides other new material, two new chapters and ten more plans specially drawn for this book.
The area now dealt with not merely includes the harbours of England, Scotland, Ireland ; the Continent of Europe from Ymuiden, following the coast westwards and down the Bay of Biscay to Bordeaux ; but continues from Bordeaux via the French inland waterways to the Mediterranean at the Gulf of Lions, and takes in all the Mediterranean harbours eastward up to and including Toulon. This is the first time that yachtsmen have been provided with a volume which covers practically all the likely cruising regions from the North Sea to the Middle Sea.
I have to express my thanks for the encouraging manner with which both yachtsmen and the press have welcomed the first edition. Every endeavour is being made to keep The Yachtsman's Pilot up to date, and once more I shall welcome the courtesy of those who may point out any mistakes or omissions.
I would, however, remind readers that the plans here provided are meant to supplement the largest scale charts which should always be on board. Depths are intentionally omitted from the plans. The primary aim is to simplify the way in, and show where to bring up.
