The Author (who is young and fresh of vision) is well known to the readers of the London - Evening News,- - The Blue Peter - and other publications for her contributions. This book is therefore sure of a welcome from her many admirers.
Miss Grigsby spent her childhood in a mother town of ships and she here sets out to convey to others something of her own great love of deep waters and the ships which sail thereon.
The book opens with an account of her own experiences as one of the crew of a small coasting vessel, and there follows such diverse subjects as Figureheads, Dutch Fishing Craft, life in a Belgian
sailor-town - and the wharves and docks of the Thames. In addition there are charming chapters dealing with her own childhood in the old town of Portsmouth.
To the Author, a ship—whether a white winged sailing vesel or a bluff bowed Tramp—is a subject of adventure, and approaching her subject from a slightly different angle to most men writers, she has written something both joyous and vital, but at the same time free from gush or sentimentality.
A well-known writer and critic who read the proofs of the book, writes:—
You enjoyed all your experiences and enjoyment is infectious. Your view of the Romance of the past and the ordinariness of the present is like mine; the other view is held by those who don't know what they are talking about !
The illustrations by Mr. Rogers are in keeping with the atmosphere of the book and will add to its interest.
Read the book for yourself—its a Blue water cure for the Blues
