Philip Allan's NAUTILUS LIBRARY series page at camberpete.co.uk. This page provides links to other Nautilus books for sale. The 'Nautilus Library', begun in the 1920s, and built up to more than thirty volumes. A few were given slightly different titles but most were classic nautical works issued in a pocket sized edition by Philip Allan, who owned the copyright to many of the original editions.

GREAT STORMS

by L. G. Carr Laughton & V. Heddon

First published 1927 by Philip Allan, London
Second edition NAUTILUS LIBRARY No. 13 1930 by PHILIP ALLAN & CO. LTD

The front and back blue non-shiny cloth of the boards is clean and uniformly coloured, although the spine has been sunned through the wrapper; behind the blue the original colour of the cloth can be seen. The spine's gilt is a little lacklustre but nautilus to front board is bright. Corners sharp and book’s overall condition VERY GOOD PLUS. No foxing at all, all pages pristine and white except for the front free end paper, which has a small daub of what seems to be correction ink, which is the only 'inscription'. The rough cut edges of the page block are surprisingly very neat for these Nautilus editions which I put down to quite a few being uncut.

Price £10.00 plus postage
Dust wrapper almost whole but spine area badly sunned. 254 pages. Volumes are 115 mm. wide; 175 tall and about 18 mm. thick. Weight unwrapped approximately 220 grams.

Blurb

A fascinating record of famous storms, gales and hurricanes entwining mythology, superstition and fact. The authors manage to cover a great deal of ground in twelve chapters including the post Trafalgar storm, the Tay bridge disaster and China Seas typhoons.

Taken from the top third of the front of the series' dust wrappers. Used here as decoration but if clicked goes to "NAUTILUS LIBRARY" page !

Number 13

A full-size facsimile wrapper which is available free on request with purchase.

Naval Social History section: This covers any period where the subject matter is social history or, as in particular memoirs; there is material relevant to the subject. On occasions other navies are featured, not just the Royal Navy.

The Nelson page provides icons, usually adapted from the the covers, as links to books with Admiral Lord Nelson as the subject, a battle in which he played a prominent part or a warship associated with him or if of particular merit, a book that refers particularily to his period.
