Philip Allan's NAUTILUS LIBRARY series page at camberpete.co.uk. This page provides links to other Nautilus books for sale. The 'Nautilus Library', begun in the 1920s, and built up to more than thirty volumes. A few were given slightly different titles but most were classic nautical works issued in a pocket sized edition by Philip Allan, who owned the copyright to many of the original editions.

A full-size facsimile wrapper which is available free on request with purchase.

Shiny blue cloth bound book with discoloured gilt lettering and decoration a little lackluster to spine. Boards clean with corners sharp - nautilus bright.  Pages exceptionally clean and bright with neat rough cut edges. No foxing No inscriptions. Condition at least VERY GOOD and contents excellent. Dust wrapper worn, torn, rubbed and, particularly the spine, sunned.
On ebay until 26.10.2011.

ANOTHER COPY: Spine and boards whilst clean are a little dull and there is some foxing to first and last few pages and long edge of page block but contents mostly clear. Condition is still about VERY GOOD. No original wrapper but facsimile available free on request.

'Clear Lower Deck' - An Intimate Study of the Men of the Royal Navy by Sidney Knock is an excellent source for details of a Royal Navy sailor's life on the lower deck. The author had served with a certain pride and was part of a growing movement that only wanted to improve and raise standards in a service in which social conditions lagged behind post Great War expectations. The first edition is now very scarce.
