BLURBS BRITISH CARRIER AVIATION From the seaplane carriers of 1914 to the success of the Falklands Taskforce the record of the Royal Navy carriers and naval aircraft for innovation and operational achievement has been unequalled among world navies. It is a record which has been maintained against a background of often limited resources and a British role in the world which has changed dramatically since 1918. British Carrier Aviation is the story of that record. The author's thematic approach does full justice to the complex interrelationship between strategy, technology and design in the evolution of this exceptional naval arm. He draws widely on official sources, and includes many previously unpublished drawings and photographs of the carriers and their aircraft, making British Carrier Aviation as much a book for the layman as for the naval expert, and of major interest to aircraft- as well as ship-enthusiasts. |

THE AUTHOR A naval journal reviewing one of his books recently described Norman Friedman as 'fast establishing himself as America's leading naval writer' on the strength of his seven previous major works. There are many who would agree, but would base their assessment on the quality rather than the number of his books, since he has a distinct talent for explaining complex technology to the layman, without trivializing or generalizing the issues. He is currently an independent defence analyst, specializing in the technical and strategic aspects of naval policy; his work includes both an understanding of current technology and a profound appreciation of history and its application to the present. Apart from numerous articles and research papers, he has published three 'Design and Development' titles (on battleships, on modern surface warships, and on submarines), Carrier Air Power, Naval Radar, US Naval Weapons and a series of highly detailed monographs on American warships. His most recent publication is The Postwar Naval Revolution. All his titles successfully combine history and technical analysis, and all have proved popular with layman and specialist alike.
