This supplement entitled "BRITANIA'S BULWARKS" appeared in the February 22nd. 1896 edition of "THE GRAPHIC ".
This fold-out engraved art-work is 120 centimetres (47.25 inches) wide and 84 centimetres (33 inches) high.
The margin consists of tables and notes relating to all the numbered vessels and their respective classes.

Below: photograph taken with flash. This engraving, over the years, has been folded in two separate ways so there are twice as many vertical creases as needed, the folds used now are predominant. There are a few small blind tears and a small amount of crease edge rubbing but there are, in my opinion, only three significant flaws:

A portion missing and an associated blind tear, the largest at centimetres. This, I believe, originated when the engraving was remove from the magazine. Click to go to image. A portion missing and an associated blind tear, the largest at 7.5 centimetres. This, I believe, originated when the engraving was remove from the magazine. Click to go to image.
A smaller blind tear through weekness and wear of a fold, five centimetres long. Click to go to image. A smaller blind tear through weakness and wear of a fold, five centimetres long. Click to go to image.
At some time yellow ink has been spilt in three blobs on the reverse of the engraving wich has leached through to the face. Click to go to image. At some time yellow ink has been spilt in three blobs on the reverse of the engraving which has leached through to the face. Click to go to image.

This is a flash photograph taken six away. This shows the general appearance of this engraving. The two major faults mentioned in the text can be seen in the overall context; the yellow ink leaching on the foremast of the pre-dreadnought in the foreground and the loss visible at the top of the small flap in the middle of the left hand vertical edge which was originally where the engraving was pasted into the magazine and probably when it was torn.

The image and links immediately below provides the navigation to the larger images of various parts of this attractively engraved supplement 'BRITANIA'S BULWARKS'. All the images are scanned with the exception of the whole pull-out which is a photograph. All the scanned images are shown at the normal computer screen resolution of 72 ppi.  If there was any particular part you would like to see in a larger format please ask, and if I can I will put it on my site for you.
