Publisher's detail

A black cloth bound book with silver lettering to spine which is slightly bumped
each end but in Very Good condition generally in an unclipped dust wrapper which
is chipped and has a small blind tear at the back.
Interestingly there are a few penciled annotations in the text; apparently from an acquaintance of the author.

A BOOK WRITTEN WITH SOME INSIGHT, THAT PERHAPS, COULD HAVE SERVED ADMIRAL PHILLIPS BETTER USED IN A SERIOUS STUDY

DEATH OF AN ADMIRAL

ANDREW GILCHRIST

The Royal Navy in the Second World War is the setting for this thrilling tale of adventure.
The story begins in GCHQ where Gordon Armour is reprimanded by a good-looking young woman, Sarah Watling, for a breach in security. The meeting is to spark off a passionate love-affair. However they are soon separated: in the face of the looming Japanese threat Gordon's expert linguistic knowledge and cypher-breaking skill make him invaluable to the British Naval war effort. He is drafted on to the Navy's largest warship the Prince of Wales where he watches the subject of the title, Admiral Sir Tom Phillips, maneuvering to circumvent the errors of other decision making commanders. However, his efforts are all in vain – the Admiral and hundreds of others go down with the great ship, but Gordon survives to tell the tale.

Author

At the time of the outbreak of the war with Japan in 1941, there was a rising young diplomat on the staff of the British Ambassador in Bangkok who had been sent to Singapore by his chief more than once on liaison duties connected with intelligence. That was how he came to know the Singapore background at first hand, and to meet some of the leading people there. This is Sir Andrew Gilchrist's fifth novel, but it is his first historical novel; and for its main narrative line, in the field of naval intelligence, he has turned back to his war-time experience..

My RETURNS & POSTAGE and PACKING Policies

If you wish to return a book please let me know as soon as possible but no later than three days after receipt.

If you feel, and I agree after we have discussed it, that my description was misleading or inaccurate then, upon the receipt of the book in the condition you received it, I will then refund all your payment plus your return postage.

If the book isn't what you really wanted and if we agree, then, upon my receipt of the book in the condition you received it, I will then refund your bid price.

I have found, so far, that the majority of my buyers are genuine.

For my part I try and describe the books as fairly as possible - I am not a professional - and do not like buyers to feel dissatisfied.

My Postage and Packing charges are calculated before wrapping as best I can with a very nominal amount added for packaging costs.

I am happy to pack together multiple buys made within a seven day period and post at cost as long as total value of purchases in the packet does not exceed the Royal Mail's built in compensation, which at the moment is £34.00.
