Before the Lend-Lease Bill went through Congress in 1941 Britain was virtually on her knees through bankruptcy. In December 1940 top German economists discovered that Britain's last remaining gold reserves were in South Africa: if they could prevent this gold reaching London, the British would be forced to sue for peace.
Captain Robert Gerrard, well known throughout the world's whaling ports for his uncanny ability to hunt the blue whale, and a hand-picked crew are instructed by the Foreign Office official in Cape Town to carry the South African gold to England in conditions of the utmost secrecy. Gerrard's whaling factory ship, the Tulsar, is hurriedly converted and armed to carry the disguised bullion and, masquerading as a passenger vessel bound for America, steams out of Durban. That same day a `ghost' U-boat, hurriedly prepared with the newest devices and a crack crew, slips her mooring in the Baltic with instructions to capture the Tulsar. U-33o's commander is Kurt Milland, Gerrard's first officer on the Tulsar before the war; in 1933 Gerrard saved Milland's life during a whaling accident and the two men are old friends. Milland was picked by German Naval High Command as the one man who could predict every move Gerrard would make - and outwit him.
On their common hunting ground, it is inevitable that Milland will track down Gerrard and that, unknown to all but a handful of people, a duel to the death will be fought in the lonely wastes of the Atlantic.DW Illustration by General Illustration Company.

My RETURNS & POSTAGE and PACKING Policies

If you wish to return a book please let me know as soon as possible but no later than three days after receipt.

If you feel, and I agree after we have discussed it, that my description was misleading or inaccurate then, upon the receipt of the book in the condition you received it, I will then refund all your payment plus your return postage.

If the book isn't what you really wanted and if we agree, then, upon my receipt of the book in the condition you received it, I will then refund your bid price.

I have found, so far, that the majority of my buyers are genuine.

For my part I try and describe the books as fairly as possible - I am not a professional - and do not like buyers to feel dissatisfied.

My Postage and Packing charges are calculated before wrapping as best I can with a very nominal amount added for packaging costs.

With the new Royal Mail UK pricing it is impractical (and expensive) to pack books together so multiple buys within a seven day period are posted at cost. This means that in the case of Pay Pal payers the first book is sent off for the quoted P & P charge and I either quote for the subsequent P & P minus the overspend on the first book, or if it has been paid, refund the difference.
