Jacket blurbs Between the wars Kelly Maguire, hero of Jutland, had once again shown himself a superb leader of men. In the third volume of The Lion at Sea he finds himself, because of Admiralty's obsession with big ships, in danger of being passed over for captain's rank. The Spanish Civil War, forcing on the Navy the need for men willing to make decisions, changes all that. When World War II breaks out, Kelly has re-established himself as a man of action willing to risk his neck and his career, and with his command lost in the naval actions at Narvik, he finds himself ashore at Dunkirk, trying to bully unwilling French soldiers aboard ship. Dunkirk leads to the Atlantic, and the Atlantic to the Mediterranean during the dark months when Britain struggled alone against the victorious Nazis, with Kelly — together with old friends and old enemies — moving swiftly up the ladder as a clear leader of men. His ship lost again off Crete, he finds himself in a staff job in Egypt and in a whirlwind love affair, but he has never forgotten his first lost love, Charley Upfold, and returning to England to command a cruiser squadron with the rank of rear- admiral, he finds her again after apparently losing her forever after Dunkirk. He is on the threshold of great things as the Normandy landings finish and, established ashore in France, he returns to England to take command of a task force in the Pacific, only for his headlong career to come to an abrupt — though not a final — stop. In Back to Battle, the splendid finale of his trilogy, Max Hennessy carries the Royal Navy through its last days of greatness as a power in the world. Jacket design by Ian Robertson Max Hennessy is a new pseudonym for John Harris, author of The Sea Shall Not Have Them, etc. Ex-sailor, ex- airman, ex-newspaperman, ex-travel courier, he went to sea before the war from his job as a newspaperman, going into the Merchant Navy and doing his first trip in the Windjammer, Lawhill. During the war he served with two air forces and two navies, was twice reported lost at sea, and had to swim for his life on more than one occasion. He returned to newspapers after the war but is now a full-time writer. He lives by the sea and for many years kept up his interest in flying with a private pilot's licence, |

My RETURNS & POSTAGE and PACKING Policies If you wish to return a book please let me know as soon as possible but no later than three days after receipt. If you feel, and I agree after we have discussed it, that my description was misleading or inaccurate then, upon the receipt of the book in the condition you received it, I will then refund all your payment plus your return postage. If the book isn't what you really wanted and if we agree, then, upon my receipt of the book in the condition you received it, I will then refund your bid price. I have found, so far, that the majority of my buyers are genuine. For my part I try and describe the books as fairly as possible - I am not a professional - and do not like buyers to feel dissatisfied. My Postage and Packing charges are calculated before wrapping as best I can with a very nominal amount added for packaging costs. I am happy to pack together multiple buys made within a seven day period and post at cost as long as total value of purchases in the packet does not exceed the Royal Mail's built in compensation, which at the moment is £36.00. |
