Rewarded by promotion for his services at the Battle of Copenhagen, Commander Drinkwater is dispatched in haste by Earl St Vincent to replace the captain of HMS Melusine, who has been shot in a duel. Melusine sails as escort to the whaling fleet from Hull on its annual expedition to the Greenland Sea in the pursuit of Right Whales. Although ex-library because this title is hard to find in hardback it might be of some use.
American edition of "A Private Revenge" A PRIVATE REVENGE by Richard Woodman U.S.edition. In the aftermath of a typhoon Captain Nathaniel Drinkwater brings His Britannic Majesty's frigate Patrician into the shelter of the Pearl River on the China coast. The battered ship has suffered losses among her company and is overcrowded by the unwanted addition of Russian prisoners. Seeking the means to refit, Captain Drinkwater finds himself caught up in the bizarre events following the British occupation of Macao and Admiral Drury's half-hearted attack on Canton.
Richard Woodman's 11th.1992; Nathaniel Drinkwater novel ‘THE SHADOW OF THE EAGLE’ set in 1814. Napoleon has abdicated as Emperor of the French. King Louis XVIII is brought out of his English exile and escorted back to France by an Allied squadron commanded by the Duke of Clarence. The `Great War' is at an end and Europe pre-pares to celebrate the return of legitimate monarchy. Or so it seems on the surface.
In the novel Endangered Species by Richard Woodman a Captain, John Mackinnon, and his ship are embarking on their last voyage. The old cargo-liner Matthew Flinders, an out-dated vessel belonging to a once-large shipping company, is bound for the breakers, and its captain is heading, with very mixed feelings, for retirement. Endangered species together, relics of a proud past, they symbolize the irreversible, quiet decline of the British merchant fleet.
